Steven Biko

Steven Biko was a South African anti-apartheid activist and the founder of the Black Consciousness Movement, which empowered black people to take pride in their identity and resist the oppressive apartheid regime. He founded numerous Black Community Programmes that fostered self-sufficiency and uplifted the black population by improving healthcare, education, and economic development. Biko’s hands-on approach in these projects provided practical support and fostered a sense of agency among the oppressed. His engagement with everyday people, encouraging them to stand up for their rights, played a crucial role in reshaping the social landscape of South Africa. Biko’s belief in the power of community action continues to inspire efforts towards social equity and justice worldwide.
